TOP 10

Here is a list of some of our favourite books!

1

Jane's Choice: ELENA FERRANTE

My Brilliant Friend, The Story of a New Name, Those who Leave and Those Who Stay, The Story of the Lost Child.

A wonderful quartet of novels set in Naples and following the lives of two women, friends from childhood to adulthood. Written by Italian author Elena Ferrante, not her real name by the way, but her pseudonym.

Jane's Choice: DAN BROWN

The Da Vinci Code

Written by Dan Brown and published in 2003, it is one of my favourite suspense reads and one that was remarkably well researched. It is fast paced and intriguing right to the very end, a book that leaves you wondering and perhaps challenging history and traditional religious beliefs. It is a story though and a creative and colourful one, a thriller that had me hooked all the way through.

3

Katharina's Choice: AGATHA CHRISTIE

The Unexpected Guest

This book is not one of Christie's most famous, but still a good one. None of her popular persons are in it and the story is set in a very short time. Also the environment is very limited, and she has managed well to make it exciting considering this. Nice reading and a bit different from her usual books.

4

Katharina's Choice: ROBIN SHARMA

The Monk who Sold His Ferrari

This book is written by Robin Sharma and it's about fulfilling oneself. There are lots of similar books and I usually don't read them, but this is a story about a man starting all over, and not a book with suggestions to do so and so. When I finished it I was so calm and felt so relaxed, although I was in a stressful situation at that moment. I will read it again as it was many years now since I did.

Jane's Choice: GAIL HONEYMAN

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine

This book is the debut release from Gail Honeyman. (2017)

I must admit I chose it from all the buzz it was creating in various media. It seemed to be splashed everywhere and after reading the blurb, it had me curious. Reading it in one weekend, it had me hooked and I couldn't put it down. An enjoyable and light hearted read, with a fair sprinkling of humour, looking at the quirky side of life from a loner's point of view. Some classic insights and observations which had me laughing out loud. (Particularly the bus scene and the ordering of coffee at a well known chain) If you wish to feel uplifted and at the same time deeply moved, I recommend this book.

6

Jane's Choice: ENID BLYTON

The Magic Faraway Tree

Even though this is a children's book, it remains one of my favourites. I read this enchanting story years ago as a child, quickly igniting my imagination. I was enthralled and I am sure I dreamt of the Faraway tree and all the strange characters written within the book. I cherished my hardcopy for many years but sadly it was lost somewhere along the way. This book brings back memories of happy, carefree days and an introduction to reading and being hooked on books. Published in 1946, it is a true classic.
